What Can I Do About Foot and Ankle Pain?

🦶Many of us will experience foot or ankle pain, whether it’s from running, standing all day or perhaps from lack of movement. We have 5 TOP TIPs for you…

  1. Give your feet a rest when standing

When we stand for prolonged periods of time, tissue fluid can accumulate in the feet causing them to swell slightly. Standing is great, especially when working from home, but we’d recommend that you sit down every hour or so for at least 5 minutes to take the pressure off of your feet. Alternatively, you can stay standing and try placing your foot on a box, alternating between the two. The added benefit of using a box to raise one of your feet is that it can improve your pelvic position whilst standing.

2. Footwear

Make sure that you have good and supportive footwear. This is important for standing, walking and running. Proper footwear should support the arches of your feet as well as providing cushion.

3. Ankle Mobility

Ankle mobility is a key movement, that can often become restricted. You can check out our quick and easy drill to improve your ankle mobility here.

4. ICE

Ice is a powerful anti-inflammatory. If your feet are hurting after a long day, fill a basin or bucket with 3” of water and a tray of ice cubes and submerge your feet for a little while. This will help to reduce any inflammation and soothe the aches and pains.

5. Chiropractic treatment

Chiropractors can treat the joints and soft tissues of the feet and ankles. The aim of the treatments is to reduce pain and to improve range of motion and function.
